This still life is inspired by mine.

It’s amazing how others treat you

When they perceive no value in you.

The stories I have

of how, behind the scenes, they act

could ruin reputations of organizations

who act differently than they brag.

“We celebrate neurodiversity and treat individuals autonomous.”

This rhetoric is ridiculous.

So far, your actions prove none of it.

A bedtime story to keep you warm

while the most vulnerable are starved out in the cold.

If you truly cared like you say that you do

your actions would prove the storyline true.

But no, on this merry go round we still sit

patting yourselves on the back

repeating empty words

with actions that are unfit.

Are you confident that your loved one is being treated with respect when you’re not in the room?

Because I’m not.
